The Siskiyou County Historical Society and Museum occasionally publish books in an 81/2 x 11 format, spiral bound and consisting of 30 to 50 pages on a subject related to the Siskiyou regions of California and Oregon. Prices generally vary from $9 to $12, depending on size and content.
Several of these publications have a direct bearing on subjects to be presented at the Symposium, including the tours. The Museum does not keep a large supply on hand; they are able to print small batches as sales indicate. They would like to have an idea of how many of each book to have on hand for the Symposium audience. They will be on sale at the Convention Center as well as at the Museum.
We are not asking that you place orders online; we simply would like to know about how many you think you would be interested in purchasing. They are listed below with brief descriptions. Simply reply to this email with each publication desired listed by title.
Historic Look at Scott Valley About 40 pages based on a tour by Richard & Orsola Silva. Maps, photos, documents, diary & newspaper quotes. Mining & ranching. Towns. THIS IS A SOURCE BOOK FOR THE MINING & GEOLOGY TOUR (TOUR B) BUT WILL NOT BE PROVIDED AS PART OF THE TOUR.

The Big Ditch--The Need for Water By Richard Silva. A 44-page history of a 95-mile ditch constructed to provide water to the numerous gold-bearing dry gulches along the west side of Shasta Valley. Maps, photos, documents, quotes. Beginning in the headwaters of the Shasta River west of Weed and ending in the Hawkinsville area north of Yreka, parts of this ditch are still in use today for irrigation purposes.
Just in case the thought crossed your minds, the Silvas receive no compensation from these publications (nor did they on the tours). It is a labor of love of the history of their native area. All proceeds go to the Siskiyou Historical Society and Museum.
Please reply to Bob Evanhoe as soon as possible; it will help the Museum with plans for printing.
Thanks from the Evanhoes; we are looking forward to seeing you later this month.
