The Library Tour started in the Rotunda of the California State Library

Gary Kurutz is the Principal Librarian
of Special Collections at the State
Library in Sacramento, including
OCTA’s Western Overland Trails
Collection. On the evening before
the Chapter’s Membership Meeting
at the Holiday Inn Crown Plaza in
Sacramento, Gary led a group of
chapter members on a tour of the
library and its Special Collections.

After the tour Hugh March, Leslie Fryman, Carol March and Patty Knight went out to dinner in Old Sacramento

James Henry (Hank) Monk driving the stagecoach. He drove Horace Greeley (Go West, young man, Go West) over the Sierras to Placerville from Carson City in 1859. “Keep your seat, Horace, I’ll get you there on time!” Monk Drove for Wells Fargo until his death in 1883. He is buried in Carson City.
