CA-NV Chapter Workshop
on Computerized Mapping
and
Round Table Discussion on MET Mapping


Mapping Workshop On August 27, 2011, the California-Nevada Chapter of the Oregon-California Trails Association offered a one day workshop on the use of Terrain Navigator Pro mapping software for use in mapping emigrant trails.


The workshop was taught by Stafford Hazelett at the Silver State Charter School in Carson City, Nevada.

To gain the maximum hands on training the participants were encouraged to bring a laptop computer with Terrain Navigator Pro [TNP] installed.

The workshop focused on computerized mapping as a tool for mapping emigrant trails.

Stafford related the use of the tools in the program to their use on an actual trail making the workshop both interesting and instructional.

 


On Sunday, August 28, 2011 the group returned for a roundtable discussion on MET [Mapping Emigrant Trails].

Don Buck, one of the principal authors of the MET Manual, facilitated the discussion.


The discussion included ideas for organizing mapping teams for specific emigrant trails, the merits of hardcopy (7.5 min. USGS quads) versus electronic maps, and the MET Manual's trail classification system.
